PERSONAL
Kerry Finch was born in Hobart in 1948 and has spent
most of his life in Tasmania. ABC radio listeners woke up
to his 7NT breakfast program for most of 24 years.
Kerry joined the ABC in Launceston in 1975 after working at
2MW Murwillumbah, 2KM in Kempsey and Launceston's 7LA.
The ABC station manager, Graeme Steele, gave Kerry the task of making 7NT ‘your radio station’ by localising the program.
“I relished the community role and to make the ABC more a part of the northern community I was a frequent host, MC and compered functions around the region,” Kerry says.
He found it easy to transfer his community radio role to representing the community in parliament when he was elected to the Legislative Council division of Rosevears in 2002.
Kerry lives at the southern end of his electorate, in West Launceston with wife Carole and any off his three grown-up sons who happen to be home.
