KELSO BEACH - BLOCKED CREEK OUTLET

[3.45 p.m.]
Mr FINCH (Question) - Leader, can you advise, firstly, whether the Government is aware of concerns by shack owners on Kelso Beach in my electorate of Rosevears about the handling by Crown Land Services of the issue of a blocked creek outlet and, secondly, despite the efforts by Crown Land Services and the West Tamar Council, the creek outlet is frequently blocked by rotting seaweed?  Can an assurance be given to Kelso Beach residents that the problem will be dealt with?

Mr PARKINSON - I thank the honourable member for his question.  The Government is aware of those concerns.  The issue has been a longstanding one and there are conflicting views amongst residents as to the management of the drainage outlet.  Crown Land Services and the West Tamar Council have been liaising in an endeavour to find a suitable solution to the problem and the Department of Primary Industries and Water and the council are currently exploring options including a proposal for the construction of a pipeline to drain Kelso Creek.
